Kylie Ann Minogue is the world famous Australian singer and film and television actress who played tomboy auto-mechanic Charlene Robinson in Neighbours from 1986 to 1988, followed by a brief return in 2022.

Kylie has also had a very successful global singing career and has done interviews about her time in Neighbours. She was romantically involved with Neighbours co star Jason Donovan (who played Charlene's love interest and later husband Scott Robinson) in the 1980s.

Pre Neighbours career[]

Kylie Minogue was born on the 28th May 1968 in Melbourne to accountant Ronald Charles Minogue and dancer Carol Ann Minogue. Ron was Australian and Carol was originally from Wales, she is the older sister of actress, TV presenter and singer Danni, and her brother Brenden is a cameraman.

Kylie had had a fairly successful career as a child actress, having appeared in various television dramas, including Skyways and The Henderson Kids, but she was considering giving up acting after failing to find further work. After finishing her school exams in 1985, she then auditioned for the role of Charlene. She attended the audition dressed as the character and won the role.

Neighbours[]

Kylie gained popularity after joining the cast of Neighbours as Charlene Mitchell, notably for the character's relationship with Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan). She portrayed the role of Charlene from 1986 to 1988, and did not return to the show until 2022, making a brief return as Charlene alongside Jason as Scott.

After Neighbours[]

Following Neighbours, Kylie became a famous singer, later becoming the most popular and successful Australian singer of all time, as well as the highest-selling female Australian artist of all time, having sold over 80 million records worldwide. Some of her hits include "I Should Be So Lucky", "Especially for You" (a duet with Jason Donovan), and "Can't Get You Out Of My Head". In 2020, she became the first female artist to have a chart-topping album in the UK for five consecutive decades. Her other ventures outside of music and acting include product endorsements, books, fashion, charitable work and wine brand.
