Guy Pearce

Guy Pearce (born 5 October 1967)[1] is an Australian actor who played played Mike Young from 1989 to 1989. He returned to the role in 2022 after a 30 year absence, as well as featuring at the start of the show's revival the following year. He is now a successful actor who has appeared in countless international film and TV productions, while still taking time to work on Australian projects.[2] The most successful of his Australian projects is probably the Jack Irish series.[3]

Biography[]

Guy was born on 5 October 1967 in Ely, Cambridgeshire, England. When he was 3, his family moved to Geelong in Australia. His father, who had been in the RAF, died in an aviation accident when Guy was 8. As a teenager, he started acting with the Geelong Society of Dramatic Arts (GSODA) Junior Players. Guy joined the cast of Neighbours in 1985 and he played Mike Young until 1989.

Guy played the guest character David Croft in Home And Away in 1991. After Home and Away, Guy's career really moved into the ascendancy. In 1994, he played a drag artist in the successful Australian film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Within a couple of years, he was being cast in Hollywood films such as Curtis Hanson's critically acclaimed L.A. Confidential, William Friedkin's Rules of Engagement and Christopher Nolan's Memento. He has worked constantly ever since, both in Australia and in the USA. Even a cursory glance at his IMDB page will show how busy he has been. In 2011, he won an Emmy Award (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie) for his role in Mildred Pearce. In 2022 Guy returned to Neighbours to reprise his role as Mike Young in what was then believed to be the three final episodes of the show. Fans were delighted that he not just played a prominent part in the final episodes, but that his character had finally got together with Jane.

Guy is also a keen musician who has recorded music (including the soundtrack to A Slipping-Down Life ) and has appeared in videos by Silverchair and Razorlight.

In 2022 Guy won a Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor for Jack Irish.

He was married for 18 years to his high-school girlfriend but they split up in 2015. He is now in a relationship with Dutch actress Carice van Houten and they have a young son. He is a big fan of the Geelong Cats Australian Rules football team.
